Controls and Software
Control level software manages AGV / AGC path, routing, traffic control and vehicle control functions. System control level software is utilized in Savant AGV systems when automatic, remote AGV dispatching or remote system monitoring is desired.
Savant AGV / AGCs are “Smart” vehicles performing their own routing and traffic control without the need of higher level “system management” controls or interfaces. This allows the Savant AGV system to operate with or without the need / added cost of higher level system management interfaces.
All Savant AGV / AGCs have onboard control / dispatch panels. The onboard display can show vehicle destination, status, mode, battery condition, error conditions, etc. It can also be used for onboard / local vehicle dispatching and diagnostics.
Standalone System Controls
Q-CAN stands for Quick Configurable Automation. This powerful new development totally changes how AGV systems are concepted, designed, modeled and deployed. While most AGV systems are vendor engineered, Q-CAN AGV systems are user configured. This greatly reduces cost, time and response to changing system needs. The Vehicle Manager (VM) hardware device is a PC based computer. It is used in systems where remote AGV call and dispatch functions are required. The Vehicle Manager is a data collection and processing system utilized to provide efficient, remote dispatching of the AGV fleet. The Vehicle Manager gathers data on material movement and then coordinates and supervises AGV task assignments in response to the system demand.
The Vehicle Manager receives data from input devices such as load presence sensors, data entry terminals, scanners or other devices (PLC, etc.). In addition, the Vehicle Manager monitors individual AGV status such as location, condition, state, etc. for all AGVs operating in the network via the Constant System Monitor (CSM).
With these inputs, the Vehicle Manager processes the available information and coordinates the AGV task assignments based on the given requirements of the system. A particular AGV is selected for a task assignment based on a “look for work” strategy. Different “look for work” algorithms can be developed based on system requirements and priorities. The AGV dispatch command mission is communicated to the AGV through the CSM.
